Governor signs bill to streamline hunting, fishing options and boost investment in natural resources

LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder today signed legislation that authorizes important changes to Michigan’s hunting and fishing license structure, simplifying the license options for outdoor enthusiasts - reducing the number of license types by more than 80 percent - and providing vital additional revenue for wildlife and fisheries habitat, conservation, outreach work and law enforcement.

The Department of Natural Resources has made changes to the license sales system, making it easier for hunters and anglers to automatically add $1 to their license purchase as a donation to Michigan Sportsmen Against Hunger (MSAH) - a program that supports the processing and distribution of venison to food banks and kitchens in Michigan.

DNRE to Accept Donations on Behalf of MSAH
The Michigan DNRE is now accepting donations for Sportsmen Against Hunger via their website. You can also donate to Sportsmen Against Hunger at any Michigan retailer while purchasing a hunting license.

DON’T PURCHASE HUNTING, FISHING OR TRAPPING LICENSES?
You can still donate tax deductable funds to help MSAH feed the hungry of our state by computer! Just go to the MDNR site at http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/ click on the Michigan E Store banner at the right lower portion of the page and once on the Michigan E Store page, click on TAX DEDUCTABLE DONATIONS in the Departments category, this will take you to the page with the selection of organizations to donate to. Just double click on the “help feed the hungry” banner and this will take you to the donation page for MSAH, just enter your tax deductable donation into the box provided and click “add to cart”. Whenever you are ready to leave the Michigan E Store, just check out and make your purchases or donations with your credit card.
